Mbabane, Swaziland

Unfortunately, my camera does not do justice to this country...Mbabane, Swazilnad is absolutely beautiful!

Monday and Tuesday Claudio and I went to Swaziland to get a new visa for me. For those who don't know, Swaziland is a country on the Western side of Mozambique. It is a country placed in the middle of Mozambique and South Africa. It is the only true monarchy left in Africa. The King currently has something like 10 wives...I think he gets a new wife every couple years. In 2001 (or somewhere around there) the King decided to put into place a new law which states that "for the next 5 years no man is allowed to marry a woman less than 17 years old". The next year, he married a woman (or girl) less than 17 years old so he fined himself 1 cow. hmmm..yep that sounds about right.

Anyways, the country is soooo beautiful. It looks like a fairytale land. In the summer months everyone is dressed in traditional dress...which means that the women are almost completely exposed and the men wear skirts! hehe It is beautiful to see though.

This was Claudio and my first trip alone (people here always want to do things in groups) so we really enjoyed this short trip!

I have to run, but I hope that you are doing well!

Where to start. Woman (?) less than 17? Are girls in Africa that much different than American girls? Isn't that the "giggle about everything" stage? It's cute to look at for awhile, but marry?

The color in your picture is fantastic. Having had the experience in my travels though, I can understand about your camera not doing the scene justice. I guess the line "often imitated, never duplicated" would fit nicely on this topic.

Yes, it was a real treat to talk with you also. Were you able to get the visa taken care of okay? Love to all in Africa from all in AZ.
