Hello! I just wanted to send out a quick update on the baby front and life in general...in February I went on a Field trip with the 10th graders from the American School (where I am working). We went backpacking in the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa. It was an incredible trip because we were able to sleep in Bushmen caves where they still had Bushmen paintings on the walls. I would highly suggest this trip to anyone, except if they're pregnant. I have never been one to falter in hiking, but this trip was excrutiating...the first day we hiked 8 miles alone. YUCK! I decided to wimp out and not do the whole hike because I didn't want to do permanent damage to myself or the baby.
Then, about 1 week later I got very sick. I had all the symptoms of malaria, but fortunately tested negative. I lost 10 pounds in that week alone! It wasn't until last Friday, when I had my first Doctor's appointment for the baby that we found out what it was: E-coli. That's pretty disgusting and I almost wish that I didn't know it was that.
The good news is that the Baby is growing perfectly! AND because of all of my weight loss, the Doctor said that he had one of the clearest ultrasounds that he's ever done. He said that even though I'm at 13 weeks, he could already tell that we are having a BOY! I really like my doctor and the hospital there...they seem very knowledgable, very friendly, and the facilities are clean. (and my doctor is a Christian who also works with Mercy Air!)
Claudio is also doing very well. He is always busy with work and writing his Thesis. He has had some pregnancy side-effects as well, but is pulling out of that now. :) He just finalised documents in the construction of a beach house for some people in Hong Kong. It is a beautiful, big home with an American style kitchen, jacuzzi, and the works...it doesn't even feel like your in Mozambique. :) The great thing is that they said that we could use the Beach house whenever we want to!
I hope this finds you all well and hope to hear from you soon! We love you all!

oh my...I am glad that you are better!
A boy!! How exciting! I was out of town for about 5 days over the weekend, so I am kind of late hearing about all the e coli, etc. I hope that you are able to stay healthy from here on out. I'll call this weekend. Love you, sis!
Has he started kicking yet? I'm told boys tend to be more active. Glad you are doing better. We're praying for you all. Lots of love from AZ.
