Traditional Remedies

Since winter is on it's way to the US, I thought I would let you in on a little Mozambican secret to cure the common cold. Supposedly, you drink this liquid and your cold will be gone in the morning. What you do is: Chop up an onion and mix it with sugar. Let it sit for 7-8 hours. After 7-8 hours you will see a liquid at the bottom of your bowl. It will only be about a tablespoon. Drink this and your cold is gone.

Last week I had a bad cold mixed with the flu. Claudio's Father wanted me to drink this and just the thought of it made me "toss my cookies". I'll leave it for you brave ones to try. =)

Oh yuck! That sounds TERRIBLE! I guess there are times that I'd be desperate to try just about anything so I'll have to remember this. Hope you're feeling better now, sister. I love you!

It all depends on the onion. Some aren't so strong and a couple are even a little sweet. And who knows, maybe curative is the purging. Hope you're better now.

Since you posted this remedy I've since heard that it's one that they use in Peru! A friend has a Peruvian nanny who suggested the same thing when her son was sick! Weird!

No kidding...these so called home remedies may work just by the fact that the person has to psychologically prep themselves to drink it...they convince themselves that it's worth it because it's really going to work...who knows!

Here's another one: I have been a little anemic lately so to "cure" this I have had to drink 2 drinks that make me want to throw up. The first is called "sumo de cacana" (or Cacana juice). Cacana is a green leaf that is VERY bitter. You boil the leaves in water and then drink the juice. This also cleases out your entire body, so be prepared to spend the day in the bathroom! :)

The second juice is a little better: Beet juice or just plain beets. Boil em, drink their juice, or eat em raw. This fills your body right up with Iron.
